艾萨-ASI Topic: How to distinguish it from mineral oil and semi-synth

Issuing time:2012-09-04 10:45

Synthetic oil is a lubricating oil prepared by chemical synthesis into higher molecular weight compounds, and then formulated or further processed. It includes synthetic esters, polyalphaolefins (PAO), polyethers, silicone oils, etc., whose composition is different from that of petroleum hydrocarbons. Semi-synthetic oil refers to the lubricating oil made by mixing synthetic oil and mineral oil in a certain proportion. Because the raw materials of synthetic oil are expensive, the synthesis process is complicated, and the investment is high, the price of synthetic oil and semi-synthetic oil is generally higher than that of mineral oil.

Compared with mineral lubricating oil, synthetic oil has the following excellent characteristics. 1. Excellent viscosity temperature and low temperature fluidity 2. Strong high temperature oxidation resistance 3. Low evaporation loss. In addition, compared with traditional mineral oil type engine oil, synthetic engine oil also has excellent chemical stability, good radiation resistance, high oil film strength and less foam. Therefore, most high-end cars choose synthetic engine oil.

How to distinguish between fully synthetic oil, semi-synthetic oil and mineral oil

Since the price of fully synthetic oil and semi-synthetic oil is higher than that of mineral oil, some unscrupulous traders sell mineral oil as synthetic oil to deceive users in order to obtain high profits. How to distinguish these oil products and avoid being deceived? The best way is to use scientific instruments to analyze the structure of oil products through infrared spectroscopy and other instruments to distinguish what type of lubricating oil. For ordinary users who lack analysis means, the following methods can also be used to identify:

①If it is an ester-based fully synthetic oil, you can mix some oil samples with ordinary mineral oil. Because it is immiscible with mineral oil, it will appear cloudy after stirring, and it will separate after standing for a period of time, otherwise it is not a real ester oil. .

②If it is poly-α-olefin PAO synthetic oil, it can be miscible with mineral oil, but its viscosity index is very high, generally exceeding 140, and because it does not contain wax, its pour point is extremely low, usually below -40°C. When the pour point temperature drops to -30°C, the oil can still remain clear and transparent. If it is paraffin-based mineral oil, the viscosity index is also relatively high, but the pour point is high, and the oil is opaque when the temperature drops to -30°C when the pour point is measured; if it is naphthenic mineral oil, the viscosity index is low, generally lower than 80, The other states are the same.

Since semi-synthetic oil is generally made by mixing polyalphaolefin (PAO) oil and paraffin-based mineral oil in a certain proportion, there is no better method except for instrumental analysis.
